Gladiator and Contender are stood on opposite podiums, which are 1.1m in diameter, armed with pugil sticks 41cm apart. On the whistle both competitors must try and hit each other from the podium to the crash mats below.
Contender Knocked Off: 0 Points
Remain on Platform: 5 Points
Knock Gladiator Off: 10 Points
Neither Contender or Gladiator can take their hands off the pugil stick, except when changing grip position or to regain grip on the stick.
All offensive or defensive manoeuvres must be made with the pugil stick, no pushing, shoving, kicking or use of hands is allowed. Neither combatant may step over to the opponents platform.
Both Gladiator and Contender must attack, just defending will forfeit the contest.
If a Contender or Gladiator is knocked down into a kneeling or sitting position an effort must be made immediately to return to standing position, otherwise they are disqualified.
If either combatant looses their pugil stick or helmet they are disqualified from the Duel.
